The question of how each company can contribute is constantly evolving. Transparency, responsibility and respect for natural resources are central to our approach. As a cosmetics company active in more than 85 countries and producing in Aachen, we aim to design decisions along the entire value chain consciously and to develop them continuously.
We prioritise concrete actions over general promises and also engage our partners worldwide in responsible handling of materials, energy and logistics. Responsibility is understood as an ongoing process, guided by realistic objectives and measurable improvements.
Packaging and shipping offer concrete opportunities to reduce material usage. Packaging components for our products are sourced 95% from Europe, while the bulk originates 100% from Europe. Our shipping cartons consist of 80% recycled cardboard. We completely avoid polystyrene as filling material. Product cartons and paper used for printed materials are FSC certified.
Since mid-2022, JANSSEN COSMETICS has been gradually converting folding cartons based on Algro Design board to FSC Mix board (at least 70%). FSC certification stands for responsible forest management standards.
Where appropriate, we reduce additional packaging components. For our professional dispensers, we have eliminated plastic caps, saving almost 2 tonnes of plastic per year. Since 2023, we have also discontinued cellophane wrapping and continue to review further optimisation options.
All formulations are cruelty free and comply with current legal requirements. We use carefully selected raw materials of plant-based and biotechnological origin and place great emphasis on skin compatibility. Specific lines, such as Sensitive Skin, are tailored to particularly sensitive skin needs and are suitable for oncological skincare during chemotherapy.
In our buildings and working environment, we prioritise durable materials and regional suppliers. At our headquarters, newly built in 2020, natural colour schemes, wood from certified forestry and high-quality materials from regional partners are used.
To reduce operational emissions, we focus on electromobility. Parking spaces with charging facilities, a company electric vehicle and the exclusive use of electric forklifts in logistics are integral parts of our infrastructure.
With the commissioning of our photovoltaic system, we generate part of our own energy. The installation on two roofs of our company buildings complements our energy supply and reduces dependence on external electricity sources.
Collaboration with our partners, suppliers and customers is based on long-standing personal relationships. Transparency, reliability and responsible decision-making across supply and logistics chains are central to our cooperation.
