World Environment Day - Working together for a sustainable future
June 5 is World Environment Day - a global event to raise awareness of environmental protection and sustainable action. For us at JANSSEN COSMETICS, sustainability is not a short-term trend, but a central component of our corporate values. As a second-generation family-run cosmetics company, we see it as our responsibility to conserve resources, reduce CO₂ emissions and make our production processes as climate-friendly and environmentally conscious as possible.
We rely on sustainable cosmetics solutions, packaging from Europe, FSC-certified materials and the conscious avoidance of unnecessary plastic. Because real change can only be achieved through consistent and transparent measures - for our environment and for the future of professional skincare.
For JANSSEN COSMETICS, sustainability is more than just a claim - it is lived practice. As a family-run company, we focus on environmentally conscious action in all areas - from packaging and ingredients to corporate management.
Packaging & shipping - conserving resources, protecting the environment
We source 95% of our packaging materials from Europe, and 80% of our shipping boxes are made from recycled cardboard - completely free of polystyrene. Since 2022, we have only used FSC-Mix-certified cardboard packaging from sustainable forestry. Thanks to conscious material savings - e.g. by dispensing with plastic caps and cellophane wrapping - we save around two tons of plastic every year.
For shipping, we rely on DHL's GoGreen Plus to actively reduce CO₂ emissions and make our supply chain climate-friendly.
Ingredients - natural, safe & cruelty free
Our formulas are cruelty-free, based on natural and biotechnological active ingredients and free from fragrance allergens and colorants. Our Sensitive Skin line in particular is therefore suitable even for care during chemotherapy.
Company structure - sustainably built, consciously managed
Our company building was constructed using natural materials from sustainable forestry. We use our own photovoltaic system, rely on e-mobility (incl. charging infrastructure & electric vehicle fleet) and work exclusively with electric forklift trucks in the warehouse.
Growing in partnership - locally & globally
We maintain long-term, trusting relationships with partners, suppliers and customers - both nationally and internationally. Sustainability and environmental awareness are key issues that we promote together.

Interview with Managing Director Ulrich Janssen on the topic of “Clean Beauty at JANSSEN COSMETICS”
Ulrich Janssen, the term “Clean Beauty” is becoming increasingly important in the cosmetics industry. What does it mean specifically for JANSSEN COSMETICS?
U. Janssen: For us, clean beauty means consciously avoiding controversial ingredients and ensuring maximum transparency. Our products should not only be highly effective, but also particularly kind to the skin. We therefore carry out additional skin compatibility tests to ensure that they meet the highest standards.
Which ingredients do you specifically avoid as part of your Clean Beauty strategy?
U. Janssen: For new launches and updates to active ingredient formulas, we have decided to stop using a large number of controversial ingredients. These include, for example, parabens, (cyclic) silicones, microplastics, phthalates, EDTA, BHT, ethanolamines, mineral oils, PEGs & PPGs and certain UV filters such as octocrylene and oxybenzone. We also consciously avoid aggressive sulphates, phenoxyethanol, formaldehyde and aluminum. Instead, we rely on skin-friendly alternatives that are both effective and sustainable
What sustainable trends do you currently see in the cosmetics industry, and how is JANSSEN COSMETICS dealing with them?
U. Janssen: Sustainable innovations such as biodegradable packaging, water-free formulations and upcycling of ingredients are becoming increasingly important. We are actively following this path by reducing environmentally harmful ingredients, developing more sustainable packaging solutions and increasingly gearing our products towards veganism. Many trends are short-lived and, depending on which side of the coin you look at, not always honestly sustainable. At JANSSEN COSMETICS, we innovate in ways that make sense for the environment and our customers in the long term. Our goal is to contribute to a responsible cosmetics industry.
You mentioned veganism. Is this a central component of your sustainability strategy?
U. Janssen: Absolutely! For us, sustainability also means avoiding animal-based ingredients such as honey or beeswax. Our new developments and reformulations are designed to be completely vegan. This is our contribution to animal welfare and a further step towards a sustainable future.
Sustainability not only concerns ingredients, but also packaging and production. What measures are you taking here?
U. Janssen: We rely on more sustainable packaging materials, deliberately avoid cellophane wrapping where possible to avoid plastic waste, and optimize our production processes. Our company management is also geared towards sustainability - from energy-efficient buildings with our own photovoltaic system to reducing our CO2 footprint.
Switching to more sustainable products is a complex process. How do you ensure that the quality continues to meet the highest standards?
U. Janssen: We take the time to find high-quality, alternative ingredients that meet our quality standards. As a cosmeceutical pioneer, we place great importance on scientifically based formulations that deliver visible and noticeable results. Our products combine innovative efficacy with maximum tolerance to specifically address individual skin needs.
